Corlie de Kock
Artist Biography

Corlie de Kock obtained a BA degree in Fine Arts and Philosophy as well as a master’s degree in Visual Arts from the University of Stellenbosch. De Kock continued her education in Hamburg, Germany, where she studied for two years under the guidance of Prof. Werner Büttner, a leading German New Expressionist. She has worked extensively as an art educator as well as a curator. Her work focuses on art as a visual language- a form of communication.
The process and action of creating art plays an integral part in the meaning of her works. She is currently interested in visual images as narratives as well as the impact of the psychological state of the viewer in the interpretation of art works.
The inner child and the psychological concept of the becoming child is an important theme in her work as well as space and landscape- interpreted as cultural rather than natural phenomena. De Kock was on the Top 5 Sanlam Portrait award 2017, received a merit Award at VULEKA in 2012 and has done private portrait commissions for important national collections.
